Hi my name is Craig Gervais. With the rise of anti-consumer practices along with the mistreatment of developers over the past few years, I felt the video game industry, along with many other industries, were on a dangerous track. A bubble fit to burst. I couldn’t sit idle. While I believe the industry is too large for the end to actually be nigh, I do worry there could be a fallout that harms players and developers equally. I dawned the title of the Video Game Doomsayer, and began writing as way to quell the frustration at my favorite form of entertainment. Soon after, I reached out to a friends at the Redlight Gaming website and began providing a weekly article to publish on their site: https://redlight.gg/.
While I do love writing articles for the Redlight site, I have been feeling a bit creatively unfilled. I believe these news stories should be shouted about on soapboxes, I want to do something more with my creative talents. I have always been taken back by the world building some games exercise. From Rapture to Dunwall, I can spend hours lost in these fictional worlds. Even games with questionable mechanics and excellent world building like We Happy Few, can capture my imagination. Through out many dark moments of my life, I have taken solace in these worlds. I feel I have gotten out of these dark days, I recognize other are not, and want nothing more to momentarily whisk them away to an unseen world. I have been thinking it is time to throw my hat in the ring in terms of storytelling.
I have created this site to use as my professional portfolio. I am hoping it could highlight some of my skills and growth as a writer. While I believe I have a long way to go as a writer, I am eager to surround myself with writers I can learn from. I would love the opportunity to contribute to your fictional worlds, while learning how to better the ideas rattling around in my head. I hope some of my work can spark a little imagination in you. Feel free to reach out with questions or concerns.
